Earlier this week I lamented about my youngest turning 5 and shared his LEGO Chima birthday party invitation. I won’t whine and moan again about how BIG he is getting. Thankfully he loves to cuddle so I have that for a while longer. Just more to cuddle, right?

Today I’m sharing all the details of his LEGO Chima birthday party! With the cartoon series being so short, there wasn’t a ton to work with, but we made it work. And my little guy was FULL of ideas of his own. And, luckily, LEGO still has some nice downloadable images on their website that they share.

I will have a complete party product list at the end of the post.

Let’s start with the party table! I had a green, yellow, blue, and light blue color scheme.

We were going to for a “forest” or “jungle” feel since that is where the various animal tribes of Chima live. So we had a green tablecloth with blue plates, napkins, and silverware. To incorporate the yellow we used yellow paper cups for the punch.

Food: The red container is actually a drink dispenser, but since it has a lid that can lift on or off, I typically line it with parchment paper and fill it with warmed food, in this case Chick-fil-a chicken nuggets, my little guy’s favorite food on the planet. We also served fruit; melon, cantelope, and watermelon cut with a melon baller to make them spherical and Chi-like. We also had grapes, tangelos, cheese cubes, Fire Chi cheese balls, and, of course, animal crackers.

For the punch I used this recipe.

I always like to end cap my table with balloons. It’s simple and inexpensive, and actually has a big impact on the table.

I downloaded a poster of the lion castle from the LEGO website and enlarged it slightly to fit a 3’x4′ sheet of paper. The image was not tall enough to fill the sheet so in my drawing program I added a Happy Birthday banner across the top. I had it printed as a color engineering print at Staples. It cost ~$12 and was honestly worth every penny!

1. My son was SUPER excited to see his name on his custom birthday poster.
2. It acted as the perfect backdrop for the party table.
3. After the party I simply cut off the Happy Birthday part and hung the rest as a poster in my son’s room.

Bordering the backdrop I made a “jungle vine” by twisting 8″ strips of Kraft paper (the kind you buy on the roll) into long “branches” and piecing them together. I then added a fringed tissue paper garland and some fun green tissue paper pom poms.

This may be my favorite cake to make to date!! Mainly because it came together SO easily. You can find my favorite buttercream recipe here and my favorite pound cake recipe here (I made 2 8-inch round cakes).

The cake is topped with the two main characters from The Legends of Chima, Cragger and Laval. They are both on their Speedorz vehicles, which are highly coveted by my newly 5 year old! He was practically beside himself finding them atop his birthday cake.

The vines on the cake are buttercream that I colored brown with food coloring. The entire week prior to the party I worked on making all of the chocolate leaves. They were all made with melting chocolate and leaf-shaped food-safe molds. I purchased 3 of the molds to make the work go faster. They are so small that the chocolate hardened pretty quick so I could move on to the next round.

I love how the overall look turned out!

Aside from the party table, the only other big decoration we had was the Chi Waterfall on the mantel. It was easy enough to create with strips of crepe paper that I taped to the top of the mantel. I flanked the waterfall with green balloons and pom poms and draped another fringed tissue paper garland around it.

I found blue honeycomb balls at Target to hang in the waterfall to act as the chi.

I flanked the bottom of the waterfall with a couple of ferns.

We used this area for gifts and it made a great backdrop while the birthday boy opened his party presents.

We also had Lego Chima coloring pages for for the little ones to do and a bounce house for lots of jumping as activities for all the kiddos.

I think this little guy had a great time celebrating his birthday. And we had a great time celebrating him!
