The Royal Court of Sweden
It’s no secret that some of the best royal photos are taken in the summertime. From last week’s adorable new portrait of Prince George to a whole genre of photos where royals frolic on beaches. There’s now a new royal picture in the mix—the Swedish royals’ annual summer portrait.
The Swedish royals capture a new photograph each year, documenting their quickly growing family. This year’s image shows King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia with their three children, eight grandchildren, and two family dogs. The group poses in a field, with some of the grandchildren sitting atop a vintage carriage.
The royals in the photograph are as follows: in the back row, there’s Crown Princess Victoria, Princess Sofia (Carl Philip’s wife) holding her son, Prince Julian (4 months), Prince Carl Philip, Prince Gabriel (age 3, Carl Philip’s son), Princess Leonore (age 7, Madeleine’s daughter), Prince Oscar (age 5, Victoria’s son), and Princess Adrienne (age 3, Madeleine’s daughter). In the front row is Princess Estelle (age 9, Victoria’s daughter), Prince Alexander (age 5, Carl Philip’s son), King Carl Gustaf, Queen Silvia, Prince Daniel (Victoria’s husband), Princess Madeleine, Chris O’Neill (Madeleine’s husband), and Prince Nicholas (age 6, Madeleine’s son).
“Together on Öland again!” wrote the family in Swedish on their Instagram page. “A long-awaited return for the crown. The family, which after a long time in different directions, can once again gather on the island of the sun and winds. A continued happy summer is wished to everyone.”
This family photo comes after Crown Princess Victoria released her own new portraits in honor of her 44th birthday. The heir to the Swedish throne celebrated the big day with the sweet family pictures and an outdoor concert held on Tuesday July 13th,
