The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 4 News, Rumors, Cast & Premiere Date

Fans got a first look at The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel‘s fourth season today. Two exclusive photos were shared via the show’s twitter, @MaiselTV, with the caption, “Here’s a look at Season 4 of #MrsMaisel – let’s hear some first reactions!” Fans were quick to comment about their excitement over the show’s long-awaited return—it’s been nearly two years since the release of season three.

Another common theme in the Twitter replies? Fans want the trailer and release date. While those details haven’t been shared publicly yet, here’s everything we know about Maisel‘s fourth season.

Season 4 will premiere in February of 2022.

After a seemingly endless wait, Amazon Prime has finally announced that Midge will be returning to our screens on February 18, 2022.

The first trailer for the new season has also been released, and offers a glimpse at how Midge is adjusting to life after her devastating firing at the end of season three. Characteristically undeterred, Midge declares that she’s done with opening act gigs. “I will only do gigs where I can say what I want,” she declares, to a skeptical Susie.

The newly released photos give a few hints at what’s to come.

In the first photo, Midge can be seen looking a bit forlorn amid feather boas and sequin-clad showgirls. “Is she still in Vegas or doing vaudeville stages?,” one Twitter user asked. While this could be a clue that Midge will take up dancing in the new season, we’ll have to wait to find out.

In the second, Midge’s parents, Abe and Rose Weissman, appear eating steak dinners on TV trays, seemingly transfixed by the television. It’s clear the couple are no longer living with Moishe and Shirley Maisel, but where have they taken up residence? The consensus on Twitter is that they’re in Midge’s apartment.

Kelly Bishop will appear in season 4.

The former Gilmore Girls cast member has joined the series. Bishop is well-known for playing matriarch Emily Gilmore in Amy Sherman-Palladino’s other hit series, and recently appeared in Halston on Netflix.

The show tweeted a video of Bishop in her Marvelous Mrs. Maisel costume, writing, “If looks could kill.” Watch the sneak preview below.

Milo Ventimiglia has joined the cast.

The This Is Us actor was spotted filming on set with Rachel Brosnahan (the actress behind Midge Maisel) on June 10. His exact role in season 4 is unclear but judging from the photos (below), he seems to be slated for multiple episodes and is likely playing a love interest—the two underwent numerous costume changes to film their scenes in a park. Ventimiglia previously collaborated with Maisel creator Amy Sherman-Palladino on Gilmore Girls.

Production was delayed amid the pandemic—but resumed in March.

Brosnahan was seen filming the series in New York in early March. Check out a photo of her in costume below.

Later in March, it was revealed that famed director John Waters (Pink Flamingos, Hairspray) would be appearing in a guest role in the fourth season, though the exact nature of his character is still under wraps. Waters was seen on set with Brosnahan on March 31.

In January, Brosnahan shared a first photo from the set. It appears that the series is taking COVID-19 precautions very seriously, as the actress is essentially in her own ventilated bubble. “It looks a little different this year…but we’re back!” she wrote in the caption.

The cast spoke about what’s to come for their characters.

Brosnahan told Parade that in season four, she wants to see the rising comedian “pick herself back up and figure out how to approach the next step differently having” experienced all that season three threw at her. “She and Susie have a lot to learn together still,” Brosnahan added.

Sherman-Palladino says fans can expect to see Midge struggle with the setback she faced at the end of season three. “We may be doing a little jump within the season, but when we first start up we want to [stay in that time],” she told the Hollywood Reporter. “I mean, what’s the fun of totally destroying someone’s soul and heart and not getting to see the aftermath? That’s what comedy’s made of, soul-crushing defeat.”

Amazon announced its renewal in December 2019.

“We were thrilled to hear that for the fourth time, we do not have to pack up and vacate the premises,” the Palladinos said in a statement. “We’d like to thank Amazon for all their faith and support, their partnership and enthusiasm and for letting us hang with our favorite people, the cast and crew of Maisel, for a little while longer.”

Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke noted that the show continues to be a success, saying Maisel‘s season three premiere garnered “the series’ most watched opening weekend ever.”

It won’t be hard for the Palladinos to come up with what happens next season.

The husband-and-wife screenwriting duo have mentioned on numerous occasions that they had several seasons mapped out from the jump. “I think we know what our trajectory is for the first four to five seasons,” Sherman-Palladino told The Hollywood Reporter back in 2017.

In 2018, she spoke to Town & Country about how they approach writing Maisel. “We take it from where we left off,” Sherman-Palladino explaiend. “It all snowballs on itself, so I think we’re just going to let it continue to snowball. And eventually they’ll lock us up. Eventually Amazon will say, ‘Checkbook’s closed!’ And that’ll be it.”

No word yet on when season four drops—but at least in the meantime, fans can rewatch seasons one through three.

And they’re all available to stream at the touch of a button, on offer (as always) on Amazon Prime Video. Revisit your favorite episodes here.
